Introduction The world of fiction is vast, and within the romance genre, there’s often confusion about where a book falls, especially when it comes to the distinction between romance novels and smut. Some readers see steamy scenes and assume the book is simply erotica or smut, when in reality, a true romance novel is built on emotional depth, character growth, and storytelling that goes beyond physical passion. My books are deeply rooted in romance, but they also weave in elements of thriller, fantasy, crime, and drama to create layered, compelling stories. Let’s break down what sets romance apart from smut and explore where my books fit into this discussion.
Romance vs. Smut: What’s the Difference? The difference between romance and smut lies in the intent, depth, and emotional connection between the characters. Here’s how they compare:
